Welcome to Foresight Value.

Foresight is a personal investing blog dedicated to my exploration of various value investing concepts and themes over the course of my career. As a young investor, I hope that writing and sharing my investing ideas will help identify gaps in my own logic and serve as an audit trail of my decision making process. More importantly, I aim to use the website as a networking and relationship development tool as I continue to grow as an investor and develop a track record.

Like many, I’m influenced largely by the principals of Graham, Buffett, and Greenblatt, with a particular interest in the microcap, spinoff, and special situations space and balance sheet valuation. Philosophically, I’m influenced by the principals of Marcus Aurelius and other Stoics, which lend themselves well to this form of investing.

That said, part of this project is about developing my process further, and I understand that there’s much to still be learned that may influence my investments going forward. I continue to try and actively learn about everything from distressed debt to macroeconomic investments to even quantitative strategies as I refine my process.

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
Chinese Proverb

“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.”
Mark Twain

“That’s how knowledge builds up, like compound interest.”
Warren Buffet

The title ‘Foresight’ is derived primarily from my fear of regret. Not the regret of picking the wrong stock, but the regret of having wasted life’s most powerful and only truly finite resource: Time. People early in their lives have an extremely unique opportunity to improve that diminishes each moment. We have the ability to develop routines, behaviors, and mindsets that will last with us forever, and only grow more powerful with time, just like investments.

It’s understandable that these actions are difficult to implement for everyone, as you can’t see their immediate benefits, but this is what makes a constant emphasis on foresight so important. While value investing is a primary passion of mine, I try to keep this in mind with all my hobbies, whether it’s fitness, philosophy, meditation, or anything else, and I encourage you to do the same.
